Saxophonist David Boykin talks “Genius of Jazz and Hip-Hop”

David Boykin has established himself as one of America’s most timely and innovative jazz musicians. As Director and Founder of Sonic Healing Ministries in Chicago, and a recent Artist-in-Residence at University of Chicago’s Arts Incubator in partnership with its Logan Center for the Arts, Boykin most recently coordinated open community music sessions in his private studio space and developed new compositions through his Soul Sessions music series.

He has performed throughout the world and taught music, jazz and improvisation in Chicago. His quartet is currently debuting new music throughout Chicago and the U.S. in fast-approaching dates. You can find out more about him and his calendar at Learn more about him, his quartet and his new music in my interview with him.

If are in Chicago this Thursday Night at 8 p.m., see the David Boykin Expanse Jazz Quartet at The Promontory in Hyde Park, Chicago, 5311 S. Lake Park Avenue. Tickets: $10 (“Genius of Jazz and Hip-Hop” with Chessmasters, Prime Meridian and DJ Ayana Contreras)
